On a professional activity (PA) day, schools are open to teachers but students stay home. In 2026-2027 Durham's two school boards, the Durham District School Board (DDSB) and the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), share one list of PA days. Some apply only to elementary or only to secondary students. Below are events for kids on each of the next few PA days, including every public library program, then the full list of dates. Durham PA Days: Common Questions

When is the next PA day for Durham schools?

The next PA day is Monday, October 26, 2026. Every student at the Durham District School Board (DDSB) and the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB) have the day off.

Do the DDSB and DCDSB have the same PA days?

Yes. For 2026-2027 the Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board use the same PA days and holidays. A few PA days are for elementary students only or secondary students only, and the table above shows which.

Do all DDSB schools follow this calendar?

No. Five DDSB schools run a modified calendar with an August start and extra breaks: C.E. Broughton PS and Winchester PS (elementary), and Brock HS, Henry Street HS, and Maxwell Heights SS (secondary). Their PA days match the dates above, but their breaks differ, so check the DDSB key dates page.

Is there school on municipal election day, October 26?

No. Monday, October 26, 2026 is both municipal election day in Ontario and a PA day for all DDSB and DCDSB students.
