Our Mobile App
Our iPhone app works without an account. When you first open it, the app creates a random identifier for your device so it can remember your choices. We store, against that identifier:
- The areas and interests you pick
- The events you save
- The alerts you choose (weekend picks, festivals and holidays, school days off and closures, severe weather), and a push notification token if you allow notifications
- Whether you joined the newsletter from the app (not your email address)
- The app and iOS version, so we can support older versions
We do not collect your name, contacts or precise location, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Event reminders are scheduled on your phone and are not sent to us.
Alerts use public information: Environment Canada weather warnings, the Durham Region school calendar, and bus cancellation notices from Student Transportation Services of Durham Region. We only send the alert types you turn on.
Newsletter. If you join the newsletter in the app, your email address and chosen areas go directly to our email provider, who sends you a link to confirm before you receive anything. You can unsubscribe from any email.
You can delete everything we hold about your device at any time from Settings > Delete my data in the app. Deleting the app also removes its data from your phone. To remove your email address, use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
