Songwriting Made Simple: Idea Generation

Do you dream of writing songs but are unsure where to begin or struggle to finish? This three-part workshop series offers a introduction to the songwriting process, guiding participants from their first spark of inspiration to a complete song. Designed for beginners, aspiring songwriters, and musicians looking to build their creative skills, the series provides a supportive space for self-expression, storytelling, and artistic growth. Participants will leave with original work in progress, practical tools they can continue using, and greater confidence in their ability to create and complete songs.

The first half of each class will include a songwriting lesson focused on the week’s topic. During the second half, participants will work together to write one original song over the three-week series. By the final workshop, the group will create a recorded demo that can be shared with the class.

Idea Generation
Explore how everyday experiences, emotions, stories, conversations, and observations can become meaningful song ideas. Through accessible exercises and guided activities, learn how to recognize promising ideas, overcome the pressure to be “perfect,” and develop a creative starting point for a song. Participants will leave with practical idea generation tools, increased creative confidence, and one or more original song concepts to continue developing.
